The 9 PM email that proves it all worked
Once you have helpers running, you need to know they ran. One short email a night does it.
Here is a problem nobody warns you about.
You set up a helper. It works. You are thrilled. Two weeks go by and you have not thought about it once.
Then one day you find out it stopped running. Eight days ago. Nobody noticed, because a thing that quietly does nothing looks exactly like a thing that quietly works.
Silence is not good news
This is the trap with automation. When it is working, you hear nothing. When it is broken, you also hear nothing.
So you need something that speaks up either way.
The fix is one email a night
At 9 PM, we get one short email. It lists what the helpers did that day.
Twelve labels drafted. Four packages flagged as stuck. One order held for a bad address. That is it. Ten seconds to read.
I read it standing in the kitchen. If the numbers look normal, I put my phone down. That is the whole job.
The important part: it sends when the number is zero
This is the piece people skip, and it is the piece that matters.
If nothing happened today, the email still comes. It says zero.
Zero is information. Zero on a Sunday is normal. Zero on a Tuesday means something broke, and now I know on Tuesday night instead of the following week when a customer tells me.
An email that only shows up when there is news teaches you nothing. An email that shows up every night teaches you what normal looks like.
It takes about half an hour to set up
Everything your helpers do gets written to a simple log. Once a day, something reads that log, counts it up, and mails it to you.
That is it. No dashboard. No app to check. Nothing new to remember.
The recap is not about the numbers. It is about knowing your systems are still alive.
