What does this actually cost?

A plain answer to the money question. What you pay for, what is free, and where people overspend.

Nobody wants to ask this out loud, so let us just answer it.

Starting costs nothing

Your first month should cost you zero. Free versions of the big AI helpers do plenty. Draft replies. Clean up notes. Answer questions. Summarize a long email.

If you have not spent an hour with the free version, do not spend a dollar. You do not know what you need yet.

Then it is about twenty dollars a month

When the free version starts slowing you down, you pay for one seat. That is roughly twenty dollars a month, per person, for the good version of one helper.

For most owners that is the whole bill. One seat. Done.

If one seat saves one hour a week, you are already ahead. That is the honest math and it is not close.

Then it is about five dollars a month more

If you want a helper that stays on when your laptop is shut, it needs its own little computer somewhere. A rented one costs about five to ten dollars a month. Less than the coffee you had this morning.

That is the step where people expect a big number and there is not one.

Where people actually overspend

Not on AI. On tools around it.

They buy the platform with the pretty dashboard. Then a second one because the first did not do one thing. Then a third to connect the first two. Now it is four hundred a month and nobody on the team logs into any of them.

The pattern is always the same. They bought before they knew what was stuck.

The cost nobody puts on the invoice

Your time learning it. That is real, and it is the biggest line item.

Budget a few hours. Not a few weeks. If a tool needs more than a few hours before it does anything useful for you, it is the wrong tool for right now.

Twenty dollars and one clear job beats four hundred dollars and a plan.
